The University of Virginia’s Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks an experienced systems administrator for a position in our Storage, Backup, and Archive team. Commensurate with the candidate’s experience, the role will be filled at the respective level that best matches the candidate’s qualifications.
In this role, you will support, maintain, and automate a variety of enterprise class storage systems deployed at UVA for departments across the University. Working alongside a team of experienced engineers, you will collaborate closely with internal and external partners to provide technical guidance, optimize deployment processes, develop best practices, and ensure efficient, secure, and high-quality IT services.
The ideal candidate has in-depth experience with Linux systems, skill with enterprise storage systems, experience supporting a diverse user base, excellent communication and troubleshooting skills, and a sincere commitment to teamwork and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
Provision, troubleshooting, and upgrade enterprise storage solutions for departments and end-users.
Diagnose and resolve complex storage-related issues escalated from the general Help Desk.
Monitor performance and availability of complex storage and backup systems.
Automate storage management tasks using scripted and configuration tools.
Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately one week out of every seven).
Work setting
Primarily remote with On-premises work is required as necessary
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Hands on experience with enterprise-class storage systems (NetApp OnTap, Dell Powerscale/Isilon, Pure, Qumulo, etc.)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, NFS and SMB sharing protocols
RHEL or CentOS Linux system administration experience
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Proficiency in at least one scripting language (bash, Python, Ruby, etc.)
Preferred Experience:
Experience with enterprise backup systems (Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik, Netbackup, etc.)
Windows server administration
Familiarity with ServiceNow, Blackboard, and/or other Enterprise help desk system
Experience in a large enterprise IT environment, preferably higher education
Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
