Job Duties

Are you looking for an opportunity to implement processes and procedures to keep the state of Virginia safe? We are searching for individuals driven by safety to support state traffic operations. As a Laborer in Lynchburg District Traffic Operations, you will perform special duties as assigned. This position is considered essential.

This is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve-month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools.
  
• Valid driver's license.
  
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
  
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
  
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.

Additional Considerations

• Experience performing roadway maintenance or construction activities.
  
• Experience with emergency operations to include snow removal, storms, and accident clean-up.
  
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Equipment Repair, Construction, Maintenance, or related field desired.
  
• Skill in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance.

This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with the job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations.
