The Department of Mathematics in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is seeking a Senior Fiscal Technician to join our administrative team primarily to perform budget and finance functions on behalf of the faculty and the department. This position provides financial support to department faculty (including PI's), graduate students, and staff and performs a variety of routine and non-routine financial functions of a moderately complex nature. Senior Fiscal Technicians may work in one specific area of finance or support a range of different disciplines, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, grants administration, or treasury. Senior Fiscal Technicians are often responsible for data entry and reporting within the University's various financial systems and demonstrate extensive knowledge of processing financial transactions through various IT platforms. Senior Fiscal Technicians resolve complicated transactional issues, prepare summaries, reports, charts, and graphs as requested, and perform all duties of Fiscal Technicians, but are distinguished by a depth and breadth of experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and post recurring, standard, and monthly journal entries; T&E credit card reconciliations; document discrepancies, ledger entries, original entries and reconciliations; maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
• In collaboration with Arts & Sciences research administration office, provide oversight of grant expenses and receipts, monthly grant certifications, journal entries, expense reports.
• Provide support and backup to the Department Finance and Administration Manager for budget and finance related activities.
• Procure goods and services such as travel and equipment for PIs, staff, and students. Process travel and expenditure reimbursements.
• In collaboration with Arts and Sciences research administration office, gather, compile, and evaluate financial, statistical, and operational data for reports to granting agencies if required.
• Assist supervisor and faculty with the creation of grant budgets.
• Advise and assist supervisors, faculty, and staff on financial matters as needed.
• Provide up-to-date guidance on university financial policies and procedures.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned as needed.
The Senior Fiscal Technician will report to the Department Finance and Administration Manager.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
Five years of relevant experience, preferably at the University of Virginia.
Experience with sponsored programs.
Proficiency with Workday and ResearchUVA PBH a strong plus.
Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment that requires quick thinking and strong interpersonal skills.
A self-starter with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic.
Ability to work independently or within a team environment.
Ability to build relationships, develop internal and external partnerships, and influence change.
Detail oriented, analytical, and organized.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
