THE DIVISION
The Division of Dam Safety & Floodplain Management at DCR is looking for the best and the brightest the Commonwealth has to offer! The Division of Dam Safety & Floodplain Management has an award-winning team and data tracking system that positions the division as a leader in dam safety and floodplain management. Dam Safety staff work to provide for proper and safe design, construction, operation, and maintenance of dams to protect public safety. The Floodplain Management team is charged with improving Virginia’s flood protection programs and is designated as the coordinating agency of the National Flood Insurance Program and resilience planning efforts. Both Dam Safety and Floodplain Management offer technical assistance and community education, coordinate with other state and federal agencies, and receive and provide grant funding through federal and state sources.
The Dam Safety & Floodplain Management team has a mission to protect the lives and property of the Commonwealth’s citizens from natural and manmade flooding through the implementation and administration of Virginia Dam Safety Act (§ 10.1-604 et seq.) and Impounding Structure Regulations (4VAC50-20).
THE OPPORTUNITY
This position will manage the activities, deliverables, and performance of the FEMA of CAP-SSSE and CTP program in Virginia, lead the development of program strategies, provide technical assistance to localities and external stakeholders, facilitate workshops and training courses, serve as the direct supervisor for the floodplain program planners, support the VA EOC/VEST/JFO for flood-related disasters, and coordinate with programs that advance floodplain management and maintain compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Progressive experience with applying planning principles.
Progressive experience with researching, interpreting, and communicating complex legal and/or technical subjects.
Progressive experience with coordinating, planning, and monitoring programs.
Progressive experience with interpreting laws, regulations, and policies of agency programs for the NFIP.
ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager.
Experience working with diverse groups and organizations.
