The Henrico County Health District is seeking a Nutritionist Associate (Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred) for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, which is a federally funded program that provides nutrition services to pregnant women, infants and children under the age of 5. This Nutritionist Associate will independently determine nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines and independently prescribes appropriate food packages. Assess nutritional status/eligibility for program services by: Nutrition Assessment using VENA technique process/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values and medical history. Independently set dietary goals based on the assessment. Provide patient counseling specific to the individual’s nutritional needs. Make referrals for high risk counseling with Nutritionist when appropriate.

This Nutritionist Associate position will primarily work out of our East Henrico WIC Office (1400 N. Laburnum Avenue), although will occasionally be expected to work in our Shrader WIC Office (7740 Shrader Road, Suite B) or other community settings as needed. Mileage reimbursement is available for any work-related travel. The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
This is a restricted position which is solely funded by a Federal WIC Grant. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant funds.

Minimum Qualifications
• Basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards • Ability to conduct interviews and collect information • Ability to interpret, document, calculate, and compile routine data • Experience providing patient education and/or communicating information to individuals • Good communication skills, verbally and in writing, to interact with a variety of patients, peers, and supervisors • Ability to work effectively individually and as a team member • Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing workloads • Skills using computer systems
Additional Considerations
• Training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or a related area preferred • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred • Experience obtaining blood samples/finger sticks, and taking heights and weights of individuals
