Job Duties

Clinical Treatment
Establishes skilled OT treatment plans for residents; conducts skilled OT services to residents once treatment plans are made including but not limited to; physical agent modalities, therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activities, ADL training, positioning and uses of orthopedic and adaptive equipment. Passes residents on to therapy assistants for treatment and supervises and collaborates with assistants on ongoing basis throughout treatment duration.

Documentation
Completes all required documentation in accordance with departmental agency and state policies; completes all required documentation related to Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement in accordance with departmental and agency policies. Ensures assessments are completed within established timeframes and that cost information is forwarded to the appropriate sources in a timely manner.

Training & Development Provides training for OT related services implemented by non-OT staff as assigned or as necessary; provides in-service training to departmental staff on topics relevant to departmental goals as assigned; attends and successfully completes all mandatory training as scheduled.

Evaluation & recertification of residents Reviews medical records to collect data that is relevant to the assessment as assigned and instructed; Gathers additional assessment information through interviews of client, staff, and family as assigned. Completes initial evaluation and subsequent re-certifications as needed.

Ancillary Duties Attends department and other meetings. May conduct department meetings as assigned and completes ancillary documentation and communication. Follows all safety rules and regulations. Initiates and recommend appropriate corrective action necessary when violations are seen. Maintains clean and safe environments ensuring orderly work area throughout the unit are maintained. Ensures fall prevention devices/care plans are followed and interventions are in place. Recommends purchase of new equipment; maintains OT, personal office space and equipment in a safe and clean manner; serves on committees as designated by supervisor; completes special projects as instructed and assigned.

Other Duties All other duties assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of requirements for a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited education program and must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia as an Occupational Therapist. Experience with neurologically involved developmentally disabled patients is beneficial. Previous professional occupational therapy experience in a long-term care or adult geriatric setting a plus.
