This is an hourly/wage position and is not entitled to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s state benefits package. This position is limited to no more than 1500 hours in a 12-month period and averages no more than 29 hours a week.

The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is currently seeking a part-time Training Assistant with our Division of Local Training and Development at our Western Regional Office located in Abingdon, VA. This position is responsible for assisting the Division in supporting the delivery of human services program training for 120 local agencies and community partners and maintaining the appropriate regional training center.

This position will serve as the Learning Management Systems (LMS) site administrator for the systems data and support team by producing data for statistics and to assess training. Administer and maintain required training assignments in accordance with the agency direction and entering new courses and learning events. Successful incumbent will also ensure all customer service requests received are addressed in a timely manner, produce confirmation letters for all training events, assist learners in navigating the LMS to ensure timely enrollment, and assists in maintaining a library of informational documents to support learner success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skill with a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Strong customer service skills and demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to analyze training logistic problems and find creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with the ability to input and export data from database software.
  • Skill in customer service with the ability to identify customer concerns and refer to the appropriate staff to ensure a satisfactory resolution.
  • Ability to participate on teams at various levels within an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and/or teams with executing tasks/projects composed of complex phases or steps.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience working in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience in procuring goods and services for a public sector or educational entity.
  • Experience in registration operations in support of training programs.
  • Experience troubleshooting computers and software applications.
  • Experience in training center/facility management including training material management.
