Mission or Goal of Unit: VCU's Department of Pediatrics is committed to training and developing the next generation of dedicated pediatricians, caring for each child as if they were our own and advancing the specialty and its myriad subspecialties through innovative research. Our central hub is at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU in downtown Richmond, with satellite locations and community clinics all throughout Central Virginia.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University (CHOR at VCU) is recruiting for a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist. Candidates should be eager to advance their academic career in a collegial atmosphere in a growing Children’s Hospital. The Division is home to a robust research and clinical service, and an accredited Fellowship Program in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. The division and CHoR are part of the NCI-designated Massey Cancer Center. The division is supported by dedicated psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, chaplains and educational consultants with the goal to provide comprehensive wrap-around care to all patients and families. This position will not only provide clinical care but will also have the opportunity to lead this multi-disciplinary team to ensure care is coordinated and all members of the team are supported in their professional development and growth.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Hematology/Oncology Psychology. Faculty member will provide guidance and mentorship to Residents and Chief Residents in the area of Hematology/Oncology Psychology.
  • Research: Faculty member will have experience in securing revenue through grants and contracts and will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the department of Pediatrics.
  • Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
  • Clinical: Faculty member will serve as a Psychologist in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. The division provides clinical care to both inpatient and outpatient arenas.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Counseling from an APA- accredited doctoral program
  • Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21
  • Experience with education of house-staff, medical students, and others
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in programmatic development/leadership
  • Sub-board and or additional graduate degree
  • Experience with advocacy at local, state, and national level
  • Success in generating revenue (grants/contracts)
