Mission or Goal of Unit: Our mission is to provide unparalleled patient care, educate and train emerging leaders in emergency medicine and set a national standard for quality and safety metrics by responding to the changing needs of emergency healthcare through innovative research and systems development.
Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our dynamic pediatric academic emergency medicine team. The candidate will contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care, innovative research, and high-quality education in emergency medicine.
The position will hold a faculty appointment in the VCU Department of Emergency Medicine and will work clinically in Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU Pediatric Emergency Department (ED), which is a largely underserved, Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. The Pediatric ED treats over 28,000 patients per year and has experienced rapid growth in the past two years with the opening of a new dedicated pediatric Inpatient Hospital in 2023.
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the VCU Department of Emergency Medicine houses a three-year Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program. Additionally, Pediatric and Emergency Medicine residents both have rotations in the Pediatric ED.
Faculty may be recruited at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor commensurate with experience.
Position Responsibilities:
- Clinical - Provide excellent clinical care by demonstrating proficiency in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of acute medical and traumatic conditions. Provide efficient, high quality patient care that reflects current professional practice norms and skills and is consistent with accepted utilization guidelines.
- Teaching - Participate actively in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, providing didactic lectures, bedside teaching, and simulation-based training.
- Research - Engage in impactful research and scholarly activities, generating knowledge and contributing to advancements in emergency medicine practice.
- Quality/Safety - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and promote patient safety and satisfaction.
- Administrative: Contribute to administrative and leadership responsibilities within the department, fostering a positive work environment and supporting the growth of emergency medicine services.
Required Qualifications:
- Unrestricted Virginia Medical license or ability to obtain.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and research within the field of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
- Completion of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
