The University of Virginia's Building Automation team within Facilities Management (FM) has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman/Master Plumber who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be joining an exciting and growing team of electricians, HVAC techs, and controls techs for our numerous projects in the Building Automation field across the University of Virginia grounds. The BAS team currently works on new construction projects and controls installations and retrofit projects. The candidate should be able to read and process blueprints and be able to follow them for correct installation locations. The incumbent should be a team player who can work independently, as well as on a crew, and is comfortable working in an occupied environment. This individual will work on a variety of projects and will perform a wide variety of skilled installations and replacement of control valves for the Building Automation team. The candidate must be comfortable with the removal of existing control valves and the proper installation of new control valves. The ideal candidate must have an interest in learning about the controls trade, helping with pulling and landing small voltage wires, and with the termination of wires on the new control valves. Ideal Candidate will be responsible for ensuring that proper trade methods, techniques, and materials are followed when working with pipes and fittings. This role would be starting out with a focus on the installation of control valves but also could be a step into learning the controls trade and moving into a role on the BAS team as a controls installer with lots of upward growth.

Duties Include:
  • Removal of existing controls valves, under 2 inches in diameter, and the installation of new controls valves.
  • Performing isolation valve installation when needed.
  • Performing checkout of newly installed valves.
  • Assisting other trades’ personnel when needed to include the BAS team.
  • Performing all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes.
  • Responding to requests from the University community and addressing plumbing problems quickly and professionally.
  • Informing customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as referring customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Ensuring that all safety and personal protective equipment is used.
  • Using CMMS to maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: A minimum of four [4] years of experience in all aspects of the plumbing operations trade including troubleshooting plumbing and other mechanical problems.

Licensure: Journeyman or higher plumbing license. Licensed with Backflow Certification strongly preferred. A Valid Driver's license is required.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.50 to $29.00 per hour ($49,920 - $60,320 Annually), commensurate with experience.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
