Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is seeking a Gastroenterology Section Chief to oversee the division at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Section Chief for GI will be responsible for the leadership, management, and administration of the GI and Nutrition Division across the domains of Endoscopy services, Outpatient and Inpatient clinical activities, teaching, service, and research.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical - Provide clinical services in the gastroenterology clinics at VCUHS, to include both clinics on the MCVH campus and in gastroenterology outreach locations; participate in the inpatient management of patients with GI conditions, participate in attending on the Digestive Health Service at VCUHS; perform diagnostic endoscopic procedures.
Teaching - Provide teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows in the management of patients with GI conditions.
Leadership - Divisional Programs including IBD, GI Fellowship training, Pancreas/Biliary, and Women’s Health; set up Sites of Excellence for Endoscopy, Esophagus and Nutrition; oversight of all inpatient and outpatient clinical activities; oversee growth of collaborative clinical activities between VCUHS and Hunter Holmes McGuire Hospital; initiating clinical research activities.
Required Qualifications:
Board Certified in Gastroenterology
Must be facile with Diagnostic Endoscopy
Current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Previous experience in division or department leadership position in academic institution
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
