The Senior Analyst for Academic Compliance (Senior Analyst) provides expertise to accomplish institutional compliance strategies and related implementation requirements. The Senior Analyst researches and analyzes state policies and procedures regarding academic program requirements and provides guidance to schools in support of their academic program goals. The Senior Analyst organizes, implements, and monitors institutional policies and procedures to ensure alignment with state and federal compliance requirements; prepares institutional proposals and other reports for review and approval; and collaborates and communicates with institutional partners as needed to complete compliance activity. The Senior Analyst serves on institutional committees and represents the University’s academic program goal interests on external committee and work groups. The Senior Analyst reports to the Director of Academic Compliance.
Responsibilities
Academic Compliance:
Works collaboratively with schools to meet institutional, State Council for Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV), and federal academic compliance requirements. Coordinates closely with school contacts and provides expert advice to ensure proposals required for approval by internal and/or external bodies are cohesive, complete, accurate and responsive to policy and procedural requirements. Plays a key role directing the effective analysis and processing of information and provides quality assurance of materials throughout the review and approval process.
Serves as the primary institutional contact on proposed new credentials regarding requirements that inform the preparation and submission of compliance documents, and advocates on behalf of schools in support of UVA academic interests. Engages in discussions with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) regarding policy and procedural requirements, clarifies questions or issues, and provides guidance as needed to move proposals forward.
Works with the appropriate school representatives (e.g., faculty, accreditation contacts) to guide and assist in the preparation of materials required for an array of academic program requests, with particular focus on new degree program and new certificate program proposals. Analyzes institutional program actions for alignment with policies and procedures (internal and/or external), and addresses disconnects as required. Effectively summarizes in writing issues and/or questions that require redress.
Regularly interacts with internal stakeholders to strategize on approach to work, facilitate progress of actions, contextualize issues, manage time frames, and exert quality control. Communicates with internal stakeholders (e.g., school contacts, Institutional Research and Analytics, University Registrar) the outcome of actions as appropriate, and updates SCHEV’s program management system as required.
Assists in the systematic processing of information to ensure timely progress of a proposal, efficient and effective tracking and management of information, and accurate and timely solution to questions that may surface during the process. Focuses on opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of OAC office practices.
Coordinates with the University Assessment Director to ensure proposed new and modified degree and certificate programs promote and reinforce sound learning outcomes assessment planning.
Participates in meetings and assists the Director of Academic Compliance in other areas related to Academic Compliance as needed.
Special Projects:
Conducts research, analyzes data, and prepares reports and other materials as requested by the Director or Deputy Provost directly or indirectly related to Academic Compliance (e.g., distance education, data quality practices). Recommends new approaches to Academic Compliance practices (e.g., communication, workflow) with an eye toward improved effectiveness and efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree. 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
A minimum of four years’ relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
Experience working on compliance issues related to higher education, state authorization and/or accreditation essential.
Ability to evaluate and apply complex policies and provide nuanced technical advice and information.
Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task work essential.
Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly technical writing skills for regulatory and compliance filings. Proven ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to a general audience, in multiple forums.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
Experience with document management software and/or desktop publishing software preferred.
Project management experience preferred.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position is Hybrid located in Charlottesville, VA . Anticipated Hiring Rang e: $80,000 - $85,000 commensurate with education and experience.
