Join our dynamic team at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Population Health and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCC) this summer! We are seeking a highly motivated intern to contribute to groundbreaking research in computational pathology, single-cell spatial multi-omics analysis, and biomarker discovery. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop and apply cutting-edge computational and statistical algorithms to advance precision medicine.

Position Overview:
  • Single-Cell Spatial Biology: Participate in the development of novel methodologies and algorithms for analyzing single-cell spatial biology datasets and their impact on disease diagnosis and therapeutics
  • Image Analysis & Algorithm Development: Focus on image processing, alignment, and segmentation to support the analysis of spatial imaging datasets
  • Deep Learning for Biomarker Discovery: Contribute to the development of deep learning algorithms for identifying disease biomarkers, enabling patient stratification and personalized treatment strategies
  • Collaborative Research: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers from computer science, biostatistics, and cancer biology

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics, or a related field
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, computational biology, and image analysis
  • Proficient in Python and R programming
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics and single-cell biology principles
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A strong interest in cancer research
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU
