Job Description:

Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge.  MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Welding Instructor to lead credit and noncredit welding programs. The successful candidate will oversee instructional activities within the Department of Academic Affairs and support noncredit FastForward offerings through Workforce Solutions and Community Education. This role primarily involves instruction at the Wilson Workforce Center in Buena Vista.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality welding instruction aligned with industry standards, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and pipe welding processes.
  • Demonstrate and evaluate student skills, particularly in pipe welding techniques using SMAW and GTAW processes.
  • Develop and update curriculum to meet industry and accreditation standards.
  • Support program development and outreach efforts to promote welding careers within the community.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and industry partners to ensure program relevance and student success.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective instruction and program development.

- Proven ability to lead collaboratively and build strategic relationships with stakeholders.

- Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs.

- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.

- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in both classroom and laboratory settings.

- Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience working in a welding environment.

- Proficiency in all-position welding using multiple processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW).

- Ability to pass an AWS welder qualification test.

- Prior welding teaching or training experience.

Additional Considerations:

- Associate degree or higher in Welding, Advanced Manufacturing, or related field.

- Extensive pipe welding experience, particularly in SMAW and GTAW processes.

- Certification as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

- OSHA Outreach Trainer certification.
