The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Academic Tutor - Content Specialist.

The University of Virginia Department of Athletics Academic Affairs Department is looking for dedicated Academic Tutors - Content Specialists. We are searching for professionals with expertise in Math, Language, Economics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Biology. Content Specialists will work under the supervision of the Athletics Academic Affairs Learning Services staff to provide support to student-athletes enrolled in courses that fall under the main expertise listed above. This position will have group sessions and individualized sessions with Student-Athletes. Depending on demand some sessions will function as drop-in units.

Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement detailed lessons plans based on course content for student sessions.
  • Deliver study strategies specific to course content and objectives.
  • Conduct sessions using the CAST framework.
  • Further develop skills and knowledge of course content and objectives through student sessions.
  • Comply with all NCAA and ACC rules and regulations as well as the UVA Honor Code guidelines through continuous training.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with student-athletes and Athletics Academic Affairs staff.
  • Ensure daily communication with full time Academic Affairs staff regarding on-going concerns or issues.
  • Stay up to date on all course changes as the semester progresses and communicate changes with appropriate constituents.
  • Complete and submit detailed session reports at the end of each session within the Academic Affairs Database.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and the UVA Honor Code
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Ability and willingness to work with a diverse student-athlete population and to assist students with varying levels of support.
  • Ability to work evening hours (5:00 PM -10:00PM) to best support the needs of our athletic academic program.
  • We prioritize providing tutoring sessions in-person, but remote opportunities may exist.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with teaching, advising, tutoring or mentoring. Volunteer experience and experience as a student will be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Postgraduate Student or Higher Education Professional.
  • Professional degree or Certification in the following: Math, Language, Economics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Biology.
  • Experience with tutoring or mentoring students on the collegiate level within your expertise or higher education Teacher Assistant experience in specific expertise.
  • Ability to work within a professional environment without constant supervision.
  • Able to work with a diverse student population.

Anticipated Compensation Range: The compensation for this position will be $25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience and education. Content Specialists will be paid for 1.5 hours of time for each 1-hour session to compensate for preparation and reporting.

The University will perform background checks on all hires prior to employment.
