About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Accountant Senior – AP in our Property and Finance Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will serve as a team member in the Accounts Payable Unit, which is responsible for auditing and processing payments in excess of $100,000,000 annually ensuring compliance with Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) Manual, Department’s internal written policy, and Prompt Pay Act; analyze expenditures to ensure proper application of policies and procedures along with generally accepted accounting principles; research and analyze escalated vendor issues or unresolved outstanding invoice issues; liaison with vendors and internal staff to ensure fuel purchases and deliveries are not adversely impacted; review expenditure documents and perform complex analysis of expenditures and obligations; and serve as the Program Administrator overseeing the Individual Liability Travel Card Program

Minimum Qualifications

•Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); of payment practices and policies; of Accounts Payable function; and of the recording and auditing of financial transactions for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
•Skill in the use of personal computers and using Microsoft Office applications; and in using a 10-key adding machine.
•Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, accurately analyze, evaluate and reconcile financial data; to understand chart of accounts and expenditure coding; to participate in the training of staff; to organize and prioritize work responsibilities; to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers; to manage Department issued credit card with integrity; to work independently and as team member; to analyze, comprehend, and apply accounting policies and procedures manual, compliance regulations, and other written policies; and to pay attention to detail.
•Experience or training in accounting, finance, or business management.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in using ORACLE E-Business Suites, and the Commonwealth's software applications, such as Cardinal preferred.
