Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Director of Development - Athletics (FA063). The selected candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of shared experiences for Longwood Athletics donors and stakeholders as well as the management of a comprehensive donor relations engagement plan, including acknowledgements and fulfillment of appreciation packages and communications. Key functions include the management of game day donor hospitality events and the strategic development and execution of tailored fundraising initiatives. The candidate must also be able to work evenings and weekends as required. This position will report to the Associate Vice President of Development and work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals, campus partners, faculty, staff, volunteers, and university leadership.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Manage the fulfillment of game day premium operations, including outreach and communication of Champions Club, Club 64, and President's Suite guests.
  • Plan and manage all athletics donor-based events (home and away) including but not limited to: Tip-Off, Blue & White Scrimmage, virtual events, home game events (welcome reception for parents/donors at home openers), and Blue & White Society events.
  • Strategic planning and implementation of shared experiences for all athletic society donors and select high-level donors, including invitations, RSVP tracking, collaboration with vendors, creation of event itineraries, and day of execution.
  • Maintain a standard in-office working schedule to accommodate in-person visits with current and prospective athletics donors.
  • Liaison for sports-giving societies to include but are not limited to: Better Together and Built to Win Partners for Blue & White Society members.
  • Manage and execute a comprehensive donor relations engagement plan including sport-specific outreach, gift tracking, acknowledgement notifications, and fulfillment of appreciation packages.
  • Carry out custom acknowledgement plans for high-level athletic gifts.
  • Enhance and execute new and innovative ways to improve donor experience and donor acknowledgements.
  • Lead and collaborate with sports advocates to ensure alignment between the Office of Advancement and the Athletic Department.
  • Initiate and execute special appeals for targeted groups of athletic donors.
  • Initiate and execute the collateral creation for special fundraising appeals.
  • Assist coaches with and track Teamworks communications.
  • Manage Crowdfunding and Fundraising Events (special projects).
  • Organize and implement strategic Day of Giving communications.
  • In collaboration with other Advancement Team members, execute all aspects of retreat planning, annual reports, stewardship, communications to program members, events to steward & recruit new members for these groups.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Experience in fundraising, communications or relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience in athletics/engagement and/or development, preferably in higher education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas and multiple competing priorities.
  • Must have the ability to understand the needs and interests of constituents in order to develop relationships between them and the university.
  • Must have an extreme and honed attention to detail.
  • Must be able to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and advance strategic advancement plans.
  • Must be able to travel often around the region and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required for special programs or events.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain effective collaboration and communication with campus partners, administrators, donors, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with donors and university constituents.
  • Personal belief in the mission, goals, and objectives of higher education, with a steadfast belief specifically in Longwood's mission and vision.
  • Must display integrity, sophistication, and perseverance.

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, administrative and professional faculty, exempt position. A successful fingerprint based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
