Companion/RVMT Supervisor - Staffing Resource Office

The Companion/Remote Video Monitoring Technician (RVMT) supervisor serves as a Companion/RVMT team leader, overseeing the triage, assignment, and discharge of direct observation orders promptly and safely. This role ensures compliance with hospital policies and Joint Commission standards while directing daily workflow, troubleshooting issues, and escalating concerns to the SRO Nurse Manager (Companions/RVMT) as needed. The Companion/RVMT supervisor also collaborates on the appropriateness of direct observation orders, manages the RVMT Waitlist (if applicable), and assists with maintaining and troubleshooting Companion iPads and the AvaSure system. Acting as a role model, this position fosters professionalism, efficiency, and adherence to the Medical Center’s ASPIRE values. Other duties may be assigned to support patient safety and quality care initiatives.

  • Serves as a leader and resource to ensure direct observation orders are triaged, assigned, and discharged in a safe and timely manner.
  • Prioritizes work and communication effectively with staff and SRO Nurse Manager.
  • Evaluates work requirements and assignments, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and Joint Commission standards.
  • Directs the daily workflow of the Companion and RVMT team, resolving problems and troubleshooting issues to maximize effectiveness.
  • First point of contact for issue resolution and escalates problems to the SRO Nurse Manager (Companions/RVMT), ensuring closed loop communication.
  • Proactively monitors and escalates concerns or uncertainties related to the Companion/RVMT team and suggests possible resolutions and escalates as needed to leadership.
  • Collaborates with the SRO Nurse Manager (Companions/RVMT) to determine the appropriateness of each direct observation order request.
  • Coaches Companion/RVMT on EPIC, Avasure, professionalism, escalation/de-escalation, patient safety skills when appropriate and escalates behavioral and performance concerns to the SRO Nurse Manager.
  • Evaluates the RVMT Waitlist (if applicable)
  • Helps with the maintenance and troubleshooting of Companion iPads and the RVMT AvaSure system.
  • Educates and helps to train new hires through a standard on-boarding program to ensure a consistent competency and proficiency level of new hires within the Companion and RMVT team.
  • Acts as a role model for the Companion/RVMT team, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and commitment to quality. Exhibits the Medical Center APSIRE values.
  • Protects and maintains privacy, confidentiality and safety in all interactions with patients, family members and other UVA Health team members.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service; responsiveness, empathy and willingness to assess and respond to individual patient needs 100% of the time.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to collaborate closely with internal and external departments to ensure quality and safe patient care.
  • Knowledgeable of the job description, performance expectations and competency assessment for the Companion/RVMT team.
  • Assists SRO Nurse Manager with completion of annual competency assessments and performance appraisals.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $23.29 - $37.26 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate's Degree required or must be obtained within five years of hire or transfer.

Experience: 2 years of relevant work experience in Mental Health or safety-related field.

Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Saver AED Course required within 90 days of hire. CPI certification is required within 1 month of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: (computer and mouse use). Proficient communicative skill across spoken, writing domains, adequate auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly and compose messages clearly and concisely.
