At Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. About the Role

These positions are considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested. 

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and support for mobility.
  • Utilize behavior management strategies to support individuals exhibiting maladaptive behaviors.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support while promoting independence.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and work collaboratively with a support team.
  • Foster a safe, structured, and positive environment.

 Shift Hours:

2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Shift differential is available for the following shifts:
2nd shift weekday $2.50/hr. weekend $3.00/hr.

All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice training class is 12 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and one day 2p-10p).

Skills and experience required:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have active, valid driver’s license.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
  • Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals.
  • Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, healthcare or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records.
