The Science Museum of Virginia is seeking a passionate and organized Event Services Coordinator to help manage and coordinate exciting after-hours public events, meetings, tours, programs, and facility rentals.
In this key role, you'll be at the center of the action, negotiating contracts, coordinating logistics with vendors, entertainers, caterers, and more, all while ensuring that every event runs smoothly. As the Manager on Duty (MOD) for museum-hosted events, you'll oversee operations and provide top-tier customer service, ensuring guests have a fantastic experience. Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds in an educational environment. A strong understanding of the Science Museum’s mission, programs, and services is essential, as well as the ability to interpret and implement policies for guests and clients. The candidate must be a proactive, self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating reliability and honesty. Possess a demonstrated track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, volunteers, contractors, and the public, always exercising tact and diplomacy. The ability to plan, schedule, and execute facility set-ups based on client instructions is a must, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Previous experience in providing outstanding customer service and working with a diverse range of clients is required. Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office (Word and Excel) is necessary, and a working knowledge of basic AV and lighting equipment is preferred. The candidate must also be able to handle cash and credit card sales in accordance with established cash control procedures. A valid driver’s license is also required, as well as emergency response and First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to attain both). Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required for this position.
Additional Considerations
Previous event experience is a plus. Knowledge of guest service principles, practices, and procedures. Excellent business math skills. Fluency with G suite.
