Job Duties

The Chickahominy Health District which includes Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, and New Kent counties, has the perfect opportunity just for you! We are seeking a Public Health Nurse (Registered Nurse) that is a self-starter, detail-oriented, organized, and punctual team player ready to assist the clinical division. Two positions are available- one will be located at the Hanover Health Department and one at the New Kent Health Department.

The incumbent will need to be able to perform independently and as a team and abide by all state codes, regulations, HIPPA laws, and play an integral role within the district to support immunization efforts, case management needs, and clinical assessments. The incumbent will need to be able to independently provide professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings. They will also perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. All nursing staff participate in public health emergencies and community health assessments.

The actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. This role may also have the ability to supervise support staff. Some travel may be required within the health district with personal mileage reimbursement or use of an agency vehicle when available. Typical work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap)vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.

Please note that this is a critical and hard to fill position; a hiring incentive such as leave or a bonus may be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

• Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public
• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR

Additional Considerations

• Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
