Post Doctoral Research Associate - Division of Cardiology

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at the University of Virginia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a keen interest in sex differences in cardiovascular disease and the development of novel therapies for coronary microvascular disease. The research program focuses on clinical translation and the development and validation of existing and novel cardiac imaging-based biomarkers.

The successful candidate will contribute to day-to-day laboratory operations, provide scientific and technical assistance on experimental design, and perform studies needed to advance the missions of our research program.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.

The position is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: PhD, MD, or equivalent degree is required at the start date.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical cardiology and clinical cardiac imaging, with a track record of successful publication in the field. Proficiency in working with and analyzing cardiac magnetic resonance, computed tomography, and echocardiographic images using a wide range of software programs is essential. Additionally, a strong understanding of cardiac anatomy to facilitate image segmentation and labeling is required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for contributing to the preparation of research proposals and manuscripts.

The position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt-level, benefitted position. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A pre-employment health screening is required. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
