Facilities Management (FM) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Plumber to support the department’s goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service to University Central Grounds Zone customers. This role involves maintaining both historic and modern facilities, including Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village, which encompasses the Rotunda, Pavilions, Lawn & Range Student Rooms, as well as contemporary classroom buildings. The selected candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the plumbing systems of these diverse structures operate efficiently, blending the preservation of historic systems with the demands of modern infrastructure. This position is essential in upholding the quality, safety, and reliability of services provided to the university community.

Senior Plumbers are responsible for similar duties as Plumbers but operate with advanced skill and greater independence. In this role, Senior Plumbers will direct, lead, and perform a wide variety of advanced repair, installation, and maintenance tasks on plumbing fixtures and related equipment. They will be responsible for independently installing, repairing, and replacing complex plumbing systems, while providing technical guidance and mentorship to lower-level plumbers. Additionally, they will respond to renovation projects and support maintenance work orders within the Central Grounds Zone, ensuring the efficient operation of plumbing systems while maintaining a safe and functional environment for all. This position requires a high level of expertise and leadership, as Senior Plumbers are entrusted with overseeing critical projects and ensuring the highest standards of service and safety.

Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose plumbing problems and perform repairs as required. Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems as necessary.
  • Lay out piping systems; install proper hangers and support systems. Install pipefitting in compliance with applicable codes and construction documents.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes.
  • Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
  • Assist supervisor coordinating daily assignments.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: A minimum of seven [7] years of experience in all aspects of the plumbing operations trade including troubleshooting plumbing and other mechanical problems.
  • Licensure: Journey or Master level plumbing license required. Backflow Certification preferred but not required. Valid Driver's License with zero or positive points balance.


Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $30 - $34 per hour ($62,400 - $70,720 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
