Blue Ridge Community College invites applications from for a full-time, 9-month, 24-pay faculty teaching position in Veterinary Technology for one of the premier, accredited veterinary technology programs in the country. This position also involves providing veterinary care to animals used in the program, including limited after-hours care of program animals as needed. Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent degree) and hold a veterinary license (or be eligible for licensure) in the state of Virginia.

Program facilities are well equipped for all aspects of veterinary technology instruction in delivering a broad array of courses. The program benefits from strong college administration and community support. Additionally, support and mentoring are provided by a large team of experienced, talented veterinarians, and skilled veterinary technicians currently on staff.
Position will include teaching (traditional classroom, in-person labs, and online delivery) with a focus on strong pedagogical approach and quality student learning assessment. Additional responsibilities include providing veterinary care to animals used in the program, supervising students in laboratory and clinical settings, and engaging in broader activities in support of BRCC college-wide.
Expectations include participation in institutional responsibilities such as service and leadership on college committees, academic advising, and mentoring adjunct faculty within the discipline. Candidate will also participate in scholarly engagement and professional development activities and community service to both BRCC and the local community
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching: Responsible for creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a the program. Teaching encompasses the following four components:
Instructional Design: utilize and distribute established course syllabus; participate in the textbook and learning resources selection process; design and implement assessment strategies that effectively measure student achievement of established course learning outcomes.
Instructional Delivery: align course activities with student learning outcomes for the course; employ a variety of active learning strategies to foster student engagement; employ appropriate technology and supporting materials that support course and program learning outcomes; and provide students with prompt and meaningful feedback on course activities and assignments, communicating with students in a timely and respectful manner.
Instructional Effectiveness: deliver instruction so as to align with stated learning outcomes; adhere to college policies and procedures for participation in student surveys of instruction; conduct meaningful and timely assessments of student learning.
Instructional Expertise: maintain currency in the assigned teaching discipline(s), methods of teaching, learning, and/or instructional technology.
Scholarly and Creative Engagement: Participate in activities specifically associated with the faculty member’s teaching discipline through conferences, workshops, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
Institutional Responsibility: Fulfill institutional responsibilities including (but not limited to) the following: participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for full-time teaching faculty; publish and hold office hours; serve as an academic advisor; participate in required department, pathway, committee, and college meetings; keep accurate student attendance reports and records; submit grades in a timely manner according to established college guidelines; adhere to BRCC and VCCS policies; actively participate in one’s peer teaching community at the college; perform assigned duties; and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, staff and administrators at the college
Service: Quality participation and commitment to students, BRCC, and community organizations. Service activities are divided into three categories:
College representation where there is a direct connection between the faculty member who engages in the specific activity and their position at the college.
College citizenship where the activities are in support of the college or VCCS initiatives wherein the faculty member is a member of a committee but not in a leadership role.
Community citizenship where participation by the faculty member is part of the person’s involvement in the community as a citizen who happens to be a college employee.
Candidates selected for interview will be required to facilitate a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
Current, active license to practice as a veterinarian in the state of Virginia (or eligibility for licensure)
2 or more years of relevant clinical experience
Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory and large animal clinical procedures
Commitment to applications of instructional technology
Enthusiasm for the community college mission and environment
