Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
MECC offers part-time, student employment through the Federal Work Study (FWS) program.
This program gives MECC students the opportunity to work part-time through the college and gain valuable work experience.
May work in various areas throughout the college with differing schedules. Individual department managers will work with students to establish acceptable schedules around class schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
FWS positions are considered temporary positions and individual student placement in particular positions is not guaranteed.
To apply, students must meet the following minimum requirements:
Students must have a current year FAFSA on file and be eligible for financial aid.
A GPA of 2.00 or above is a minimum requirement to apply for a FWS position.
Students must have less than 60 cumulative credits to be eligible.
