The Department of Music in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor position (F0347) to begin in August 2025.

Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, including:

• Applied Violin/Viola for music majors
• Secondary/Elective Applied Violin/Viola for minors and non-music majors
• Directing the Chamber Orchestra
• Teaching Strings Methods for Instrumental Music Education Majors
• Teaching Music History

Depending on qualifications, additional duties may include teaching aural skills, and music courses in the general education curriculum.

In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are expected to advise students in the major, establish and maintain an active agenda of performance and scholarly/creative work, collaborate with colleagues, engage in appropriate committee work, attend university and departmental events, and recruit new students.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have an earned Doctorate in Music by August 2025. University-level experience in teaching Applied Violin is required. Preference will be given to candidates whose general teaching credentials best complement the expertise of current music faculty. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to student recruitment and the development of relationships with secondary school music teachers.

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, one-year, non-tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
